Old lawn tractor problem?

I was given an old MTD lawn tractor. The rear end is locked up on it. The engine runs, it just wont go. The tractor is probably 10 years old. Any idea why it would be locked up. The guy that had it said he let his buddy work on it, and it hasnt worked since, but he doesnt know what he did to it. any idea?
Is thier away online to see the under side of the tractor so I can see how the belts go on the pulleys. The belt if off of the motor right now!

Take your hand and turn that flywheel on the transmission in the rear. If it doesn;t turn and it is locked in place then you have a transmission problem and my guess it will be the worm gear. You will need to prop up that rider and remove the wheels and drop that tranny.

Then remove the screw and split that housing open. Inspect that worm gear. It probably is crushed to death and the grovvces are worn slap out. and all that metal is locking it up.

The worm gear is made of brasss against metal. Brass rips up not the metal. In most cases the worm gear replacement will do the trick as long as the everyting else appears to be okay,.

Get another worm gear put it back together and when you turn that shaft both axels shouls turn nice and smoothly.
