Repair or replace the tractors? Trans Hydro Slide (13 years)?
I have a craftsman 15.5 HP lawn tractor 42 "with Peerless 205039C Transaxle Hydro was sliding even moderate slopes in recent years. I lived with this thing last year, so I know it is not falling belts. It is a sealed unit, but I drained and replaced the oil twice (Mobil1 15W50). It seemed to work for a while but no more. Replacing trans is no longer available from Sears (although listed as available) and other places are selling it for $ 650 online. Can not find it (new or used locally zone Easton PA). Although the engine and deck are in great shape, it is a tractor 13 years and I do not think a value of $ 650 for a new trans. Repair or replace? I guess you can get maybe $ 150 to $ 200 when it is someone who needs parts. Opinions? TIA Stu
In all axes hydraulic trans is not what is called the valves of the Cross line relief. One forward and one step back. Try it and see what happens. carry knives and try to back up the hill to see if it fits in the reverse mode. If these valves are dirty and clogged, then it will happen. But it is hard to think back and forth would be a mistake to try and support units to see what happens. I can not tell you that this device will also cause you need expert hands to do so. It is possible but not desirable.
